Šilo, island of Krk, Croatia

Šilo is the largest of Dobrinj's local villages with a long tradition of welcoming tourists.

It's very picturesque, situated in a protected bay Stipanja, naturally closed by "Punta Šilo".
It lies in the immediate vicinity of Crikvenica and its Riviera, separated from it by the Canal of Vinodol and only appr. 20 kilometers away from the Krk-bridge. One of Šilo's particular qualities are its numerous and naturally protected pebble beaches (coves) and the specially well known sandybeach with its clear, pleasant sea, ideal for small children. Šilo boasts a long fishing tradition and plays host to regular "sea fiestas". Also poular with tourists are various sport and entertainment events.

Tennis courts, beach volleyball courts and various water sports (sailing, rowing, diving, etc.). In the immediate vicinity of Šilo is the shipwreck "Peltastis", making one of the most interesting places for divers in the Croatian sea. Your gastronomic needs will be satisfied by small pubs offering traditonal and international food.

Besides the wonderful nature and the pleasant climat, these small villages offer numerous historic and cultural sights as well, like the early romanic church of St.Vid, "Alea Glagoljasa" and the church of St.Peter in Gabonjin, the beautiful cave "Biserujka" in Rudine etc.

Gastronomy fans will enjoy the specialities of the domestic and international cooking, with the white wine "Zlahtina", a local specialty offered in several restaurants in the settlement itself.

On the other side of Soline bay, there is a true picture-postcard village Cizici, encircled by the sea on one side, and a richgreen mediterranean forrest on the other. The small sea settlement follows the traditional architecture with narrow streets bordered by sea-coast stone wall called "gromace". As you walk uphill you are greeted by mediterranean hospitality, its botanics, olive groves, and the wonderful view of the bay.

Accomodation is offered in numerous private apartments in the immediate vicinity of the medicinal mud and beautiful sea-coast with many coves and beaches. One may relax under willow trees (a curiosity in these mediterranean parts) on "Peril" - the monument to the traditional way of life - or walk along the Cizici's "trademark" - the wonderful pine-tree-lined walk.
